ACT CIC is proud to present the Lights, Camera, Action Media Project — a dynamic, youth-led media training and employability programme designed to empower disadvantaged young people aged 16–21 in North West Birmingham and surrounding areas.
This exciting opportunity gives young people the chance to train with industry professionals, develop creative skills, and gain real-world experience in media — completely free of charge.
Led by a team of award-winning creatives, including BAFTA Connect filmmaker Daniel Alexander, the project places young people at the heart of storytelling, production, and community impact.
What’s the Project About?
Over 12 months, participants will:
Develop skills in filmmaking, photography, graphic design, journalism, and social media
Receive mentoring support and career guidance
Collaborate on real projects with local creatives and media professionals
Help organise and deliver community events
Gain valuable work experience and employability training
This programme is ideal for anyone ready to explore the creative industries, grow in confidence, and turn their passion into a pathway toward future employment or entrepreneurship.

Meet the Facilitators
Daniel Alexander
Daniel Alexander is a multi-award-winning filmmaker and BAFTA Connect director with over a decade of experience in television, film, and branded content. His credits include the Amazon Prime series Riches, the ITVX series Deep Fake Neighbour Wars, and collaborations with the BBC, ITV, Channel 4, and more.
Daniel is also an experienced trainer, having delivered creative development programmes with BFI, Creative England, BBC, and the Commonwealth Games. He is passionate about nurturing the next generation of creative talent in Birmingham.
Meet the Facilitators
Mekel Simpson
Mekel Simpson is a British artist, music producer, promoter, director, and actor, best known for his contributions to the film and music industry. In 2009, he directed the short film Handsworth Calling and played the role of Goldtooth in the film 1 Day. He has also appeared in various short films, including The Quicker (a medieval drama) and Inside Out.
Beyond his work in entertainment, Mekel is a dedicated outreach youth worker, mentor, and counsellor, committed to empowering young people in Birmingham and surrounding areas. He has collaborated with organizations such as Creative Academies and First Class Foundation to inspire and uplift the next generation.
